About
This project was inspired by local public debate about housing, especially conversations exploring what could be needed to support climate resilience, community wellbeing, and meet the changing needs – and evolving leadership – of Aotearoa’s dynamic population.
Initial research and painted panels reflect on the rollout of colonial housing in Aotearoa and the operation, both before and since then, of housing as an expression of social class.
The creative process became an (at times heartbreaking) exploration of function, productivity, and human value within Western frameworks, and hope for collective reimagining of these concepts.
Later pieces celebrate the potential of creativity & recreation as supports for sustaining cultural renewal, discovery, and transformation.
